# Team and routines

> Meet your agents, and control when they wake up and work on their own.

## Your agents

Every company starts with three agents. Two more join when you turn on their feature in [Company settings](https://help.brainer.ceo/guides/company-settings.md).

| Agent | What it does |
| - | - |
| **CEO** | Runs the company: keeps the documents and roadmap, gives the team its work, checks it against the live product, and reports to you. It doesn't code |
| **Product Engineer** | Builds the product: writes the code, runs it and ships it |
| **Marketer** | Tells people about the company with posts on X, LinkedIn and Facebook |
| **Outreach** | Joins with the Outreach feature. Finds people who have the problem you solve and emails them one at a time |
| **Writer** | Joins with the Blog feature. Writes articles that answer what your customers search for, with pictures and diagrams |

Open **Team** and select an agent to see its status, tasks, routines and chats. From there you can change its instructions, skills and model.

## Heartbeats

A heartbeat wakes an agent on its own to do work. The CEO's heartbeat runs **every 6 hours**. Each time, it checks your numbers, reviews what the team handed back and what you answered, and gives the team the next one to three tasks. If nothing can move, it starts nothing.

On an agent's page you can set its heartbeat to every hour, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, every day, or off, or wake it now.

## Routines

Routines are scheduled jobs. Every running company has two:

| Routine | When | What it does |
| - | - | - |
| **Founder update** | Weekdays at 08:00 and 18:00 | The CEO emails you what got done, what's happening and what's next |
| **Tidy the docs** | Sundays at 09:00 | The CEO keeps the company's documents short and accurate |

Outreach adds a daily routine, and the blog adds one that publishes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Times use your company's time zone, and you can change or stop any routine.

The CEO can also propose new routines. Each proposal waits on [Needs you](https://help.brainer.ceo/guides/needs-you.md) until you accept it. At most five of the CEO's routines can be waiting or running at once.
