# Found your company with the CEO

> Walk through the founding chat: your idea, market research, name, brand and roadmap.

Every company starts as a chat with its CEO. The CEO leads the founding itself: it asks what you want to build, researches the market, shapes the company with you, and writes the plan your team works from.

**1. Create a new company**

On the **Companies** page, select **New company**. Pick the **Model** the team runs on. The whole team starts with it, and you can change it per agent later.

**2. Tell the CEO your idea**

The CEO asks what you're building. Type your idea, or select **Come up with one** to let the CEO suggest one.

**3. Let the CEO research the market**

The CEO looks at who already does this, what they charge, and where the gap is. It writes what it finds to a `research/competitors.md` document and uses it to shape its next questions, for example about your customer and your edge.

**4. Pick a name**

The CEO suggests a few names. Choose one, or type your own.

**5. Choose outside services**

The CEO suggests the services your product would use, such as Stripe for payments or Resend for email. Select the ones you want, or **None**. You add the actual keys later, when a feature needs them. See [Needs you](https://help.brainer.ceo/guides/needs-you.md).

**6. Choose a brand**

The CEO proposes three brand directions, each with its own look and voice. Each one is previewed as your site's first screen and a post. Swap between them, then select **Use this**.

**7. Edit and approve the roadmap**

The CEO proposes a roadmap in three phases:

* **Launch**: a landing page, the smallest product a customer can use end to end, and a website that shows it.
* **First customers**: marketing and building at once, with each milestone a number of real people.
* **Growth**: more of what worked.

Edit any phase or milestone in place, then select **Approve**.

**8. Your company starts running**

The CEO writes the company's official documents, `COMPANY.md` and `ROADMAP.md`, and starts the company. The first tasks go out to the team right away.

> Each question appears as a card in place of the message box. When no card is waiting on you, you can message the CEO freely. Until the founding is finished, the company isn't running and the sidebar shows **Finish the founding**.

## What the documents are for

The documents are the plan. Your team builds from them, so keep them accurate:

| Document | What it holds |
| - | - |
| `COMPANY.md` | What the company is, who it's for, and how it works |
| `ROADMAP.md` | The approved roadmap, by phase. The **Roadmap** page shows it |
| `research/competitors.md` | The market research, which the team keeps deepening |
